Between the eight-speed automatic transmission, wide-range variable valve timing, and a two-step variable valve lift, drivers can expect a very comfortable balance between power and efficiency.

The 3.6L V6 engine has a fuel economy rating of 20 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway for two-wheel drive models. Four-wheel drive models offer 19 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway.

The second V6 engine option is a 3.0L EcoDiesel V6. Don’t be fooled by the “eco” name; this engine is designed to be tough, especially when towing. Offering 260 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque, this engine is rated to tow up to 12,560 pounds.

The V8 Engine

The big, bold V8 engine offered on the 2020 Ram 1500 comes in two variations: with or without eTorque Mild Hybrid technology. While the eTorque version is available on every trim, the standard version is an option only on the Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, and Rebel trims.

The engine itself is a burly 5.7L HEMI V8. Both versions of this engine rate 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Both are also paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission, too. That’s where the similarities end.

Options for Everyone
