Performance
The classic Jeep Wrangler is undoubtedly a thing of beauty, especially when juxtaposed against some of the most challenging terrains. The 2024 update will have a standard 4X4 drivetrain, great ground clearance, and excellent engine options. In fact, its base-level powerplant is already an impressive 3.6L Pentastar eTorque V6 MHEV kicking out 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. This will be paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox, for an active shifting experience, or an eight-speed automatic, for the option to take smaller steps between gears.
Engine options advance to a 2.0L Turbo I-4 DOHC, which comes standard in the Sahara trim and gets noticeably better fuel economy in the city, and a 6.4L V8 SRT HEMI, which comes standard on the four-door Rubicon 392 trim. These both naturally pair with the eight-speed automatic transmission. The standard engine across the board for the Wrangler 4xe trims is a 2.0L Turbo I-4 17-kWh PHEV that gets 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque; these, too, are paired with the eight-speed automatic.
Some of the most exciting additions, as far as genuine off-road-readiness goes, come in the 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon; this is where you’ll get the all-new Warn winch with an 8,000-lb capacity. This beast of a winch empowers Rubicon drivers to get themselves unstuck—literally—by allowing for self-recovery; so, when it turns out that patch of road that sort of looked like a river of mud was, in fact, a river of mud, you can get yourself out of it with a simple snag. The Rubicon also offers an incredible crawl ratio of 100:1, making it more than ready to surmount large obstacles; if you’re staring down a steep, uneven, boulder-littered hill and wondering, “Can I?” you probably can in the Rubicon.
The Wrangler 4xe—Jeep’s PHEV variant—is also seeing some fun changes, like a Dana 44 HD full float solid rear axle, making it super easy for drivers to upsize tires and achieve the ultimate ground clearance and an intimidating aesthetic. The full float axle brings the Wrangler’s towing capacity up to 5,000 lbs, making it quite capable of taking that camper with you. As you move through the trims of the Wrangler, expect other potent off-road features like electronic disconnecting sway bars, massive all-terrain tires, steel bumpers, and a Mopar snorkel. Every inch of the Wrangler is designed to empower you to go where you want to go.
