  • Performance

The classic Jeep Wrangler is undoubtedly a thing of beauty, especially when juxtaposed against some of the most challenging terrains. The 2024 update will have a standard 4X4 drivetrain, great ground clearance, and excellent engine options. In fact, its base-level powerplant is already an impressive 3.6L Pentastar eTorque V6 MHEV kicking out 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. This will be paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox, for an active shifting experience, or an eight-speed automatic, for the option to take smaller steps between gears.

Engine options advance to a 2.0L Turbo I-4 DOHC, which comes standard in the Sahara trim and gets noticeably better fuel economy in the city, and a 6.4L V8 SRT HEMI, which comes standard on the four-door Rubicon 392 trim. These both naturally pair with the eight-speed automatic transmission. The standard engine across the board for the Wrangler 4xe trims is a 2.0L Turbo I-4 17-kWh PHEV that gets 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque; these, too, are paired with the eight-speed automatic.

Some of the most exciting additions, as far as genuine off-road-readiness goes, come in the 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon; this is where you'll get the all-new Warn winch with an 8,000-lb capacity. This beast of a winch empowers Rubicon drivers to get themselves unstuck—literally—by allowing for self-recovery; so, when it turns out that patch of road that sort of looked like a river of mud was, in fact, a river of mud, you can get yourself out of it with a simple snag. The Rubicon also offers an incredible crawl ratio of 100:1, making it more than ready to surmount large obstacles; if you're staring down a steep, uneven, boulder-littered hill and wondering, "Can I?" you probably can in the Rubicon.

The Wrangler 4xe—Jeep's PHEV variant—is also seeing some fun changes, like a Dana 44 HD full float solid rear axle, making it super easy for drivers to upsize tires and achieve the ultimate ground clearance and an intimidating aesthetic. The full float axle brings the Wrangler's towing capacity up to 5,000 lbs, making it quite capable of taking that camper with you. As you move through the trims of the Wrangler, expect other potent off-road features like electronic disconnecting sway bars, massive all-terrain tires, steel bumpers, and a Mopar snorkel. Every inch of the Wrangler is designed to empower you to go where you want to go.

  • Versatility

One of the coolest things about the 2024 Jeep Wrangler is just how configurable it is. It boasts tons of roof, door, and windshield combinations, allowing drivers to conceive the exact off-roading experience they want and get as up-close-and-personal with the great outdoors as they desire. After all, Wrangler drivers don't get this vehicle to escape from their surroundings—they get it to fully immerse themselves in them. With that in mind, the open-air freedom options for this year's model include a standard premium soft-top, two hardtop choices, a Sky one-touch powertop, a Sunrider for the hardtops, and a dual-door group with half doors.

Getting a great view of what's to come when off-roading is not only a lot of fun, but it's critical to keeping you out of tough spots. The Rubicon X—a new addition to the Wrangler family—gets a practical and thrilling integrated off-road camera. This HD wide-lens camera lets you see exactly what obstacles lie ahead, in whichever direction your steering wheel is pointed. It does this for the front and rear bumper, helping you better assess whether or not you want to travel down that alluring unbeaten path. With the ability to monitor obstacles in real-time, you can better chart your off-road course.

If you need a little inspiration on what to explore next, here's another great feature: the Uconnect 5 system—the Wrangler's most current infotainment system—boasting the Trails Offroad app. This tool offers 62 Jeep Badge of Honor trails, pre-loaded; these trails have been traveled and reported on by other Jeep drivers and show insights like location and difficulty. If you upgrade your Trails Offroad subscription, you'll unlock access to more than 3,000 trail guides. Tackle new trails, and you can even upload your own adventures for fellow Jeep drivers to check out.

  • Technology

The black interior of a 2024 Jeep Wrangler shows the steering wheel and infotainment screen.

The Jeep Wrangler fan base is a tough, back-to-basics, down-to-earth subculture, but that doesn't mean they don't appreciate some great technology as much as the average driver. Luckily, the 2024 Jeep Wrangler has it, starting with voice recognition for hands-free functions like making calls, sending messages, changing music, etc. In an off-road environment where one unexpected bump or boulder can send the vehicle in a new direction, keeping those hands on the wheel becomes especially important, so this feature is not only fun but improves safety.

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler gets an all-new 12.3-inch touchscreen, the largest for this model yet. Here, you'll get the fifth-generation Uconnect system, the Uconnect 5, which boasts unprecedented operating speeds, so you won't experience any lag when your GPS recalibrates or you request a song change. Utilize the wireless smartphone integration with your Apple or Android phone and you can see all of your favorite apps populate on that massive and clear touchscreen. The Uconnect 5 is also equipped to handle over-the-air updates, so it will constantly be self-updating.

Now, even the most enthusiastic outdoor lovers sometimes want a little relief from the action; this is why the 2024 Jeep Wrangler has active noise cancellation, creating the perfect serene environment when you need it. When you're ready to let the outside in again, just roll down those windows or take down that soft top.

The Wrangler 4xe—Jeep's PHEV off-road SUV that's a part of their zero-emissions plan—has four 120-volt outlets for powering external devices. Offering 30 amps of output altogether, these let you power portable devices like microwaves, space heaters, radios, coffee makers, and many other appliances that improve a camping trip or tailgating experience. The 2024 Jeep Wrangler combines the best of its old-world rough-and-tumble roots with modern technology for the ultimate wilderness experience.
