The base-level Tradesman offers all that and more, and the Tradesman HFE model ups the ante with a 3.6-liter V6 hybrid that will save you money at the pump. At the top end, the TRX and Limited offer two distinct definitions of luxury. While neither is hurting for advanced tech features or sophisticated styling, the TRX is all about performance, featuring a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 lifted straight out of a muscle car. Part of the new breed of super trucks, the TRX posts some mind-blowing numbers at the track, with a zero-to-sixty time of just 4.5 seconds. This would be impressive for any vehicle but is especially astounding given the fact the high-performance pickup weighs in at more than three tons.

The Limited, while also featuring an ample 5.7-liter V8 (or 3-liter turbo diesel), is more about refinement, luxury, and convenience. Active-level four-corner air suspension gives the pickup an exceedingly smooth ride. Heated front and rear seats and power running boards make the Limited a comfortable choice for any driver, and the premium feel is evident throughout with a massive 12-inch touchscreen, real wood accents, and a 19-speaker Harman Kardon Premium Audio System. That’s not to say the Limited is afraid of putting a little work in; with automatic load leveling, the truck eliminates the guesswork and makes towing easier, not to mention safer.

BackCountry

Available on: Big Horn, Lone Star

The BackCountry special edition trim package, available on the 2022 Ram 1500 Big Horn and Lone Star, is all about getting off-road. Ram has taken some of the best features from the Off-Road, Bed Utility, and Appearance trim packages available for the 1500 and combined them into one ultimate off-road offering. With extra heavy-duty shock absorbers, E-Locker rear axle, tow hooks, transfer case, and fuel tank skid plates, this trim option gives the Ram 1500 all the hardware it needs to feel at home in the dirt, snow, or whatever you can throw at it. The pickup is available in both 4×4 quad cab and crew cab configurations and offers both a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine or the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with Ram’s eTorque mild hybrid system.

The BackCountry trim also includes hill descent control – a driver assist feature which helps to automatically set the vehicle’s speed when on a decline. Just think of it as a very specific, low-speed form of cruise control. When enabled with the vehicle in 4WD Low Range, the system automatically applies the brakes when it detects a downhill slope. This gives the driver valuable peace of mind, especially when encountering particularly steep, off-road terrain.

In addition to the host of off-road hardware, the Ram 1500 BackCountry sees a number of upgrades to the exterior and truck bed. The Bed Utility package sees the addition of adjustable tie-downs, a deployable bed step, in-bed LED lighting, a spray-in bedliner, and a bed extender for trucks outfitted with Ram Box in-bed cargo management systems. The BackCountry also gets a makeover that includes features from both the Sport Appearance package and Night Edition package, creating an entirely new look unique to the BackCountry. Dark is the watchword here, with the inclusion of 18-inch black wheels, badges, headlight bezels, mirror caps, and exhaust tips, as well as running boards and a black tonneau cover.

The BackCountry’s interior picks up on the same theme, with a black interior accented by a black-out BackCountry badge on the instrument panel. Bucket seats and a 7-inch infotainment display round out the interior, while Mopar all-weather slush mats bring a little off-road ruggedness into the cabin. We should note that most drivers will only be able to find the Backcountry package on the Big Horn model, as the Ram 1500 Lone Star is exclusive to drivers in Texas. Laramie G/T and Rebel G/T

As one would expect from the name, the G/T trims (Laramie G/T and Rebel G/T) give the Ram 1500 a sporty makeover that wouldn’t be out of place at the race track. This package not only gives the light-duty truck an edgy new look but also the performance upgrades to back it up. The interior makeover imparts a decidedly high-performance feel into the G/T trims, adding a console-mounted shifter, bucket seats with G/T logo, and a metal foot pedal to the cabin. The exterior sees the addition of a sport performance hood and G/T decals throughout, and a selection of bold color schemes add a splashy touch.

In borrowing a couple of key components from the high-performance TRX, Ram gives every driver the chance to get a little taste of the super truck lifestyle. Highlights include a high-flow muffler, a console-mounted shifter, new paddle shifters, and a MOPAR Ram Airflow cold-air intake that goes a long way in bolstering the truck’s high-performance credentials. By positioning the engine filter outside of the engine compartment, this novel system pulls cooler, oxygen-rich air into the engine, aiding in combustion and leading to improved horsepower and torque. This can not only add an estimated 5 to 20 horsepower but could also improve fuel efficiency and reduce overall engine noise.

But what good is all that power if you can’t show it off? Just think of the Ram Performance Pages application as your in-car High Score rankings. Providing real-time info on performance, this app can also store some of your best times, display vital engine data, and even show what kind of G-forces you’ve been pulling.

Under the Time tab, drivers can monitor the best, last and current times for 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile, as well as 0-60/0-100 acceleration and braking distance. Two Gauges tabs give a more in-depth look at what’s going on under the hood, displaying everything from oil temperature and battery voltage to intake air temperature, boost pressure, and transmission oil temperature.
