If there’s one brand drivers can count on for an unparalleled off-roading experience, it’s got to be Jeep. For many years, Jeep has been the trusted name in all-purpose, go-anywhere vehicles. Therefore, if someone is looking for a pickup truck to do some off-roading, it’s natural to recommend they look for a Jeep Gladiator for sale.

But what is it about the Jeep Gladiator that makes it off-road worthy, besides the name? Plenty of trucks offer standard all-wheel drive and loads of tricks and toys, but in our opinion, the Jeep Gladiator is the top option for drivers who are looking for the ability to tow, stow, and go wherever they want to go.

To help demonstrate the many different ways in which the Gladiator is the ultimate off-road truck, let’s take a look at the 2025 Jeep Gladiator. From its construction to technology, take a look at some of our favorite off-roading features, including quite a few you might not expect.

The 2025 Jeep Gladiator at a Glance

For 2025, the Gladiator lineup consists of eight trims: Sport, Sport S, NightHawk, Willys, High Tide, Mojave, Mojave X, Rubicon, and Rubicon X. The Mojave and Mojave X models proudly wear Jeep’s Desert Rated badge, while the Rubicon and Rubicon X models have achieved Trail Rated badge status.

All Jeep Gladiator trims offer plenty of power and performance. Each is loaded with a standard 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine that provides 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. With this powersource, the 2025 Gladiator is able to tow loads up to 7,700 lbs and maintain payloads of up to 1,725 lbs.

While these are all things to love about the Gladiator in general, let’s look at some of the ways in which Jeep has prepared this truck for greater adventure.

Decidedly Off-Road Construction

Being tough in extreme situations is part of the Jeep Gladiator’s very blueprint and DNA. The body-on-frame construction provides the Gladiator with the right base for off-roading. The tough steel construction of the bed also adds to the Gladiator’s uncompromising approach to rugged terrain.

At the same time, body features such as doors, hood, and fender flares are constructed of high-strength aluminum, which keeps the overall weight of the Gladiator low. The result is a more nimble off-roader with better aerodynamics.

In addition to the iconic Jeep seven-slot grille and 32-33 inch all-terrain tires, the Gladiator is the only pickup truck offered with removable roof and door choices. And fear not, the windshield folds out of the way to create a truly open-air off-roading experience.

While the exact numbers depend on the model and options chosen, the 2025 Gladiator offers some incredibly trail-friendly measurements. With ground clearance up to 11.1 inches and water fording capability of up to 31.5 inches, the number of places you can drive increases significantly. Furthermore, the Gladiator offers approach angles up to 44.7 degrees, departure angles up to 26 degrees, and a breakover angle of 20.9 degrees, making it a master of crawls and drops.

Mechanical Features Help the Gladiator Go Anywhere

In addition to a tough and agile design, Jeep has given the Gladiator plenty of mechanical assistance to help this pickup truck navigate new turns.

For example, there is an advanced 4×4 system, including either a part-time or full-time transfer case. The standard on most models is the Command-Trac part-time transfer case, giving drivers the ability to switch between 2WD and 4WD Hi and 4WD Lo modes, with a 2.72:1 low range ratio. Rubicon models offer the Rock-Trac part-time or full-time transfer case options with their remarkable 4:1 low range ratio.

Trail Rated and Desert Rated models offer a particular set of appliances that help them stand up to the rigors of the most extreme terrain. This includes Tru-Lok electronic locking differentials, Dana 44 heavy-duty axles in the front and the back, skid plates, and tow hooks in the front and in the rear.

Those who are looking to take their Gladiator’s performance to the next level can check out some of the truly awesome custom Gladiator accessories and packages from Mopar. The available cold air intake system from Mopar can help boost overall power and performance, or perhaps a Mopar snorkel is your preferred engine performance enhancer.

Off-Road Features by Trim

While each of the 2025 Jeep Gladiator models is equipped with plenty of standard features, there are a few models that offer a little something extra.

Willys

The Gladiator Willys model, for example, offers a Tru-Lok rear-axle locker, rock rails, and 32-inch mud-terrain tires. The Off-road+ mode fine-tunes the throttle, traction, and transmission shift points to completely change the driving experience. Whether gravel running in 4Hi or climbing in 4Lo, this mode provides greater control and responsiveness.

In addition to the Rock-Trac transfer case, Tru-Lok axle lockers, and Dana 44 axles, the Gladiator Rubicon is equipped with electronic front sway-bar disconnect, steel rock rails for both the cab and the bed corners, and snazzy red tow hooks. Standard Corning Gorilla glass keeps the interior safe from flying debris with a lower risk of chips and cracks.

Rubicon X

The Rubicon X adds a winch-capable steel bumper and a whole lot of very cool off-roading tech. In addition to the standard Uconnect 5 system, the Rubicon X has on-road navigation onboard, along with Off-Road Trail Guides, an integrated, segment-exclusive navigation system featuring a selection of beloved off-road areas to explore. This includes all 68 Jeep Badge of Honor trails.

The Rubicon X also includes a forward-facing Trailcam, which broadcasts a view of what lies ahead, providing a view of any potential obstacles on the 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen interface.

Mojave

The Gladiator Mojave wears the Desert Rated badge due to its ability to perform beautifully and with great agility in uncertain terrain like sand. To do so, it is equipped with custom-tuned FOX 2.5-inch internal bypass shocks with FOX front hydro jounce bumpers. Orange accents and tow hooks give it a distinctive appearance, along with a performance hood with a center scoop.

Both the Mojave and Mojave X are equipped with four-wheel disc brakes with cast iron knuckles, but the Mojave X takes things up a notch with the off-road tech shared by the Rubicon X, including the Trail Cam and navigation system.

While not directly related to tackling strange terrain, the Mojave X includes useful comfort features for those who have been righteously jounced on a particularly rough trail, like bucket seats with sport bolsters and heated front seats.

An Off-Roading Truck Like No Other

There are plenty of other trucks that claim to be suitable for off-roading, and some of them are very well-suited for the job. But when it comes to being a master of the off-road experience, it’s important to choose a pickup truck that was built for the job.

Whether you’re heading where the sand doesn’t settle or looking to climb every mountain, regardless of whether there’s a road, some of our favorite trail features can be found on the Jeep Gladiator.
