There Can Only Be One Jeep Gladiator: Here’s Why
![]()
It doesn’t take an automotive engineer to immediately recognize that the Jeep Gladiator is something special. It looks exactly like a Jeep Wrangler with a truck bed. But when you get behind the wheel, you find that the Gladiator is something much more special. It’s a full experience that can’t be replicated by other auto manufacturers.
The 2026 Jeep Gladiator is not just a Jeep with a bed. It combines the best parts of driving a Jeep with the hard-working spirit of a pickup truck. It is equal parts practical and fun, and sometimes it’s hard to tell which part is which.
Let’s take a look at the 2026 Gladiator in more detail to see how it manages to be one of the coolest, most useful vehicles we’ve seen in a long time.
It’s a Jeep!
There is no mistaking the 2026 Jeep Gladiator for any other truck. Its squared-off body and iconic seven-slot grille make it very clear that this is a Jeep.
But it’s not just a Jeep. Like the Wrangler, the Gladiator is designed for adventure. That means a Trail Rated badge certifying its off-roading prowess, and trims that go the distance regardless of what the terrain looks like.
It also means you can remove the doors and roof. The standard roof for most trims is a black Sunrider soft top, though a three-piece Freedom Top hard top is standard on some of the higher trims. There are, of course, plenty of options in between to help you customize your Gladiator experience.
On all seven main trims (Sport, Sport S, Willys, Rubicon, Mojave, Rubicon X, and Mojave X), you’ll find steel skid plates awaiting your next wild destination. Throughout the lineup, you’ll find things that make sense in the mud and grit, like a Corning Gorilla Glass windshield, an available sway bar disconnect, electronic locking differentials, and the ability to take your 4×4 truck to places where only low gear and Off-Road+ Mode can get you out.
Expert-Level Jeep Gladiator Models
While all Jeep Gladiators are ready for the road less traveled, a few trims prefer to blaze their own trails. The Rubicon, Rubicon X, Mojave, and Mojave X trims represent the pinnacle of Jeep engineering, with off-road gear that other trucks can only dream of.
Rubicon and Rubicon X
True trail greatness starts with the Rubicon. Steel bumpers and rock rails protect the truck, while the Tru-Lock front and rear axles give you world-class stability when things get rough. Red Tenneco shocks in the front and rear keep things smooth as you roll, bump, and ford.
The 2026 Gladiator Rubicon also includes a trim-exclusive Rock-Trac 4×4 system. This Jeep classic provides a 4:1 transfer case with a best-in-class 84:1 crawl ratio. This is the sort of equipment that lets the Gladiator take on trails other trucks would consider impossible.
The Rubicon X takes things even further with extra features. The new winch-capable steel bumper allows the Gladiator to come to the rescue on the trail. The TrailCam Off-Road Camera system can help ensure you’re not the one needing rescuing with a camera view directly in front of the tires. Displaying this view on the Uconnect touchscreen with dynamic tire gridlines, the TrailCam lets you see your options before you make a mistake. It even has its own washer system to keep it clear of mud and sludge.
Mojave and Mojave X
While the Rubicon and Rubicon X trims are designed to take on rocky terrain, the Mojave and Mojave X are designed with sand in mind. The Mojave gets an extra suspension lift, a reinforced frame, and long-travel suspension, all engineered for skimming through the sand at high speeds.
The key upgrade for the Mojave models is the FOX 2.5-inch internal bypass shocks with external reservoirs and hydraulic bump stops. It’s not exactly like flying, but it’s just as thrilling.
As with the Rubicon and Rubicon X, the Mojave X adds numerous interior upgrades and a winch-capable steel bumper.
It’s a Truck!
But the 2026 Jeep Gladiator is just as much a truck as it is an off-road expert. Powered by a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine and equipped with heavy-duty front and rear axles, the Gladiator can tow and stow with more skill than you might expect.
Built to Haul
The five-foot steel pickup bed is not a novelty item. It’s formed around a tough steel box with integrated tie-downs and an easy-to-lift tailgate that makes loading up with your adventure equipment, work gear, or your best friend’s moving boxes easy. It can handle up to 1,720 pounds of payload.
The optional Cargo Group with Trail Rail System is a great option if you plan to maximize your truck’s potential. This package adds a 115-Volt AC outlet to the bed, puts a lockable storage bin under the rear seat, and installs Jeep’s Trail Rails along the sides of your bed so you can configure it your way.
Ready to Tow
The Gladiator can also tow. The lower trims come standard with a Class II bumper hitch, while the higher trims include a Class IV receiver hitch. The available Trailer Tow and Auxiliary Switch Group provides the truck with four programmable auxiliary switches, heavy-duty engine cooling, and a trailer hitch zoom camera view to help you align your hitch from the cabin.
When properly equipped, the 2026 Jeep Gladiator can tow up to 7,700 pounds, a best-in-class figure.
But Wait, There’s More!
Jeep drivers love to customize their vehicles, and the Gladiator is no exception. Not only are there plenty of optional packages and features that can be added to the standard trim lineup, but special editions make your time on the road extra special.
Shadow Ops
The Gladiator Shadow Ops is based on the Rubicon but features a signature black-out look, along with heavy-duty steel front and rear bumpers and a factory-installed winch. Inside, you’ll find all-weather slush mats that leave no doubt that this very cool-looking Jeep Gladiator was made to get muddy.
Sahara
The Jeep Gladiator Sahara is the most luxurious version of the truck, with premium McKinley leather-trimmed seats and a premium wrapped and heated steering wheel. The front seats are heated, as are the exterior mirrors, and automatic temperature control keeps the cabin at the perfect temperature—provided the doors and roof are installed.
Whitecap
Like the Shadow Ops, the Jeep Gladiator Whitecap is part of the Convoy Collection, honoring the special roles Jeep vehicles have had in ensuring our freedom to explore. This appearance package can be added to the Sahara, Rubicon, and Mojave trims, helping your Gladiator stand out among the crowd with a bright white roof, side stripe, and grille surround.
Have It Your Way
With paint colors ranging from black to purple and seating options that include low-back, sport bolsters, and plaid, the 2026 Jeep Gladiator has the potential to be any vehicle you want it to be.
