The New & Improved Tech of the 2025 Ram 2500
When you’re in the market for a heavy-duty truck, capability is certainly your top priority. If you’re paying a premium to leave the popular light-duty category behind, you probably need to be able to tow a heavy trailer or carry some weighty cargo in the bed. But that doesn’t mean towing and hauling capacities should be the only factors you consider. Such figures are fairly similar across the brands, as most models with “2500” or “250” in their name will max out around 20,000 lbs with their best powertrain. So, when you’re trying to decide which one is best, you’ll want to look at other features that can help to improve your driving experience.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the new features of the 2025 Ram 2500, which has received a refresh for the new model year. There’s a new look to the exterior and a diesel engine that produces greater output compared to last year’s model, but we’re going to focus on the upgraded tech and infotainment. These features can help you stay connected, safe, and entertained while on the road, whether you’re taking a quick trip across town or heading out on a long drive with a trailer in tow.
Infotainment
The 2024 Ram 1500 already had a solid lineup of infotainment screen options, ranging from a 5-inch base display to an 8.4-inch mid-range display to a generous 12-inch display for premium trims. The 2025 lineup is even better, dropping the small 5-inch option altogether and bumping the 8.4-inch to the entry-level version and the 12-inch to mid-tier. At the top, a new 14.5-inch screen earns the distinction of largest-in-class and makes it easy to see information at a glance and operate settings without having to take your eyes off the road for more than an instant. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster behind the wheel complements the main screen and can display things like traffic sign information, adaptive cruise control, etc.
New for the 2025 model year, a segment-first passenger screen gives your co-pilot an infotainment display of their own. They can use the 10.25-inch touchscreen to help pick music and check or adjust navigation directions so you don’t have to get distracted from the drive. The entire system runs on Uconnect 5 software, with operating speeds five times faster than the previous generation, so you won’t get frustrated by lag.
Electric Power
As always, the Ram 2500 has plenty of power under the hood for towing and hauling heavy cargo. But it also gives you new ways to redirect the truck’s power for less demanding tasks. For instance, an available class-exclusive dual wireless charging pad lets both you and your co-pilot power up your phones at the same time without needing to fiddle with annoying cables that are so easy to lose or break.
For electronic devices that need more juice than a phone or tablet, you can use the available on-board power inverter, which offers up to 2.4 kilowatts to a pair of covered 110-volt outlets in the bed, to get work done on a remote worksite or just kick back and have a good time at a tailgate party or campsite with speakers blasting or mini-fridges keeping your beverages nice and cold.
Driver Assistance
The Ram 2500 has long been available with advanced driver assistance technology, but these features have generally been relegated to certain trim levels. Since heavy-duty trucks are often used by businesses to fill their fleets, it’s important to keep base trims affordable. But as these technologies become increasingly common, they’re also becoming standard fare, even on these entry-level models.
For instance, the 2025 Ram 2500 now comes standard across the lineup with an enhanced forward collision warning that uses state-of-the-art systems to help drivers avoid hitting vehicles in front of them with warnings and automatic braking. The truck also stands out in its class for offering adaptive cruise control as a standard feature, allowing drivers to turn on cruise control during long trips on the highway without having to worry about a sudden slowdown or stop in traffic.
Other Safety Tech
Of course, you’ll still find the best array of safety tech on the Tradesman trim. New this year, the Big Horn trim and those above it come standard with ParkSense. These front and rear parking sensors are very helpful for maneuvering a big truck like the Ram 2500 in tight spaces, especially parking lots full of other cars.
Other features are entirely new to this model for 2025. A digital rearview mirror lets you switch between a traditional mirror and a live camera view, which can come in handy if your view is blocked by a bulky trailer or a tall backseat passenger. Drowsy driver detection senses a drop in attentiveness and gives you a warning when you might need to pull over for a quick cup of coffee so you can stay focused. Traffic sign recognition keeps track of speed limits and other signs and displays them to ensure you see them. Active lane management provides corrective steering if you start to drift into another lane while a vehicle is occupying your blind spot.
While most driver assistance features are concerned with driving, especially highway driving, the Ram 2500 also has some that are designed with trailering in mind. After all, if you’re opting for a heavy-duty truck, you’re probably going to be doing some serious towing. The new 360-degree surround-view camera with a trailer reverse guidance view can help you navigate at low speeds with a trailer attached to the hitch. The display shows you both sides of a trailer at the same time to help you visualize your place in the environment and figure out tricky maneuvers. This can be used in tandem with trailer reverse steering control, a dial that you can rotate to intuitively steer while backing up.
