The 2025 Ram 1500: What We Know, What We Love, and What’s New

For more than 40 years, Ram trucks have been a dominant force on American roadways. Known as a vehicle that delivers in every way — power, technology, durability, and driver-friendliness — they’re made for working hard and playing harder. Zimmer Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram already has a huge selection of Ram trucks for sale near Cincinnati — but the best may be yet to come.
On November 7, 2023, Stellantis officially announced the sixth generation of Ram trucks with the reveal of the 2025 Ram 1500. The first production models are expected to arrive any day now, and anticipation is building among Ram loyalists and truck fans. Should it be on your radar if you’re looking for a new truck? Here’s what we know about the 2025 Ram 1500 and why we’re looking forward to getting behind the wheel of one.
The Latest Take on an Award-Winning Truck
The 2025 Ram 1500 has a lot to live up to. After all, since Ram was spun off from Dodge in 2010, a Ram vehicle has been named MotorTrend Truck of the Year six times. From 2019 to 2021, the award went to the Ram 1500, Ram Heavy-Duty, and Ram 1500 TRX, respectively. It’s the only time a brand has ever three-peated in the category. The 2019 model year was also the first year of the gen-five Ram 1500. Clearly, that trifecta of awards shows the impressions it made on people who know trucks. Will the sixth-generation Ram 1500 have the same impact? Let’s get in for a closer look, starting by popping the hood.

Out With the HEMI, in With the Hurricane
First, a point of consternation for some truckers — the engine perhaps most associated with Ram trucks over the decades has sung its swan song. As part of the overhaul, Stellantis confirmed it is dropping all V8 engine options from the Ram 1500. That means the end of the HEMI powerplant that had powered so many Ram trucks since 2003. The move is in step with the rest of Detroit automakers and their increased commitment to more fuel-efficient vehicles. We’ll certainly shed a tear as the HEMI V8 roars into the sunset. But the good news is that even with the move, prospective Ram 1500 buyers will still be getting an increase in power.
Stellantis has now turned its focus to the 3.0L Hurricane I6 twin-turbo engine that they introduced in November 2011. This motor cooks up a storm of 420 hp and 469 lb-ft of torque in the standard output design. By comparison, the 5.7L HEMI V8 in the 2024 Ram 1500 produced 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. So even though you’re dropping two cylinders, you’re getting a lot more under your right foot. Not only that, but Stellantis claims the Hurricane engine has fewer emissions and is more fuel efficient, though official estimates have not yet been released. (As a baseline, the 2024 Ram 1500 HEMI gets an EPA-estimated 20 MPG in two-wheel drive and 19 MPG in four-wheel drive in the city).
Those who plan to do a lot of towing or simply have speed in their hearts will also be delighted by the 3.0L Hurricane High Output. It cranks an outstanding 540 hp and 521 lb-ft of torque. Though not as much as the 702 hp 650 lb-ft of torque in the supercharged 2024 Ram 1500 TRX, it’s more than enough to make a statement when you nail the gas. Interestingly, the standard output engine has a slightly higher towing capacity of 11,560 lbs versus the High Output’s 10,740 lbs, which we’re chalking up to the High Output engine, which likely weighs more.
The 3.6L Pentastar V6 mild hybrid engine, which puts out a reliable 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque, will remain an option for truck buyers on a budget. This engine is also the heartbeat of the all-new 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger, the nameplate’s first true plug-in hybrid. By combining the Pentastar with a 130KW generator, the Ramcharger surges to 663 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque, rivaling sports cars with a 0 to 60 mph sprint of 4.4 seconds. All three gas-powered engines work on an eight-speed automatic transmission.
All-New Exterior Style
Those checking out the 2025 Ram 1500 will also discover something different about how the truck presents itself. Stellantis has redesigned its flagship light-duty truck from bumper to bumper. While unmistakably still a Ram 1500 truck, the 2025 edition has a bolder, sleeker, and more modern look. This includes making the front grille larger — especially with an updated and higher-sitting Ram badge. Other new exterior features include:
- A sub-flush bed and cab to improve aerodynamics.
- Jeweled-looking LED tail lights.
- Power opening and closing on their famed multi-function tailgate.
- A truck bed power inverter with two protected outlets that can be turned on using a switch or the infotainment touchscreen (only available with Hurricane engines).
- Sharp character lines that connect the cab doors, fenders, and quarter panels.
The Technology Modern Truck Owners Need
The interior may have gotten an even more extreme makeover. Simply put, the 2025 Ram 1500 is one of the most technologically advanced Ram trucks ever, with numerous new ways to help you get over roads and trails. Let’s start with the infotainment. You now have a choice between a 12-inch or 14.5-inch touchscreen display with the latest Uconnect 5 software. Increased screen resolution and local dimming give you amazing clarity — and you can turn either into a split screen, too.
This truck is also the first in its class to have a separate passenger touchscreen. The 10.25-inch screen allows the passenger to operate the navigation system, view exterior cameras, manage connected devices, or control onboard entertainment with phone and tablet screen mirroring using an HDMI cable.
As for safety and security, Ram and Stellantis have gone all-out with over 100 features that either come standard or can be added on. Here are a few of our favorites:
- Hands-Free Active Driving Assist for all approved roads, including adaptive cruise control, lane centering, predictive braking, and driver alertness monitoring.
- A rearview mirror that can alternate between a standard reflective mirror and a fully digital mirror that uses a rearview camera.
- A full-color Head-Up Display that uses multiple content areas to display important information and allows you to save profiles for different drivers.
- Trailer Assist to help you hook up trailers and Tow Mode for monitoring your cargo.
- Electronic Stability Control that includes rollover protection plus six standard airbags in case of an accident.
