The chances are that if you are already a big fan of Ram trucks, then you don’t need any reasons to go out and buy one. Unfortunately, great minds don’t always think alike; therefore, some people need to be convinced to buy a heavy duty Ram truck. While there are several obvious reasons to buy one, the massive towing capacity and mighty engine options serve as examples; you must also consider the not-so-obvious reasons. These include points like ride quality and luxury options. That’s right, even the biggest Ram trucks are capable of unmatched ride quality and luxury options. Need more reasons to head to your Cincinnati Ram Diesel truck dealer to check out the inventory? How about all of the benefits you get with a diesel engine?

Buying a new truck is a big deal, and it is worth it to do a little research and reading about them before making a decision. Here are a few reasons why a heavy duty Ram truck with a diesel engine is a smart investment.

Diesel Trucks Run Forever

Alright, that might be a slight exaggeration; no truck, diesel or otherwise, is built to last forever, but we can say that your diesel Ram truck will run true and strong for a very long time. It is not uncommon to see a Ram truck with 300,000 miles on it tearing down the street or zooming through a farmer’s field. Spotting a Ram truck with a diesel engine in the junkyard is also quite uncommon; you would have better luck catching Santa Claus coming down the chimney. Look, vehicles depreciate rather quickly once they are driven off of the lot, so you might as well buy a new truck that will give you years of reliability and service.

Here’s another good reason to choose a diesel engine; they offer more power. The chances are pretty high that if you are in the market for a heavy duty Ram truck, it will be used for work purposes, which means you will need a lot of power. Diesel fuel provides more torque than gasoline, which is what gives diesel engines more towing power as well as power from a standstill. Diesel engines also maintain their power once in motion, which is why they are perfectly suited for carrying heavy loads and towing heavy items.

A typical gasoline engine is around 30 percent efficient at converting fuel energy into mechanical energy, but diesel engines are much more efficient at over 45 percent. This results in better fuel efficiency with a diesel engine, which means when you are traveling from point A to point B with a full load, you can skip more gas stations. You can expect to get 25 to 30 percent better fuel economy than a gas engine.

On average, you can expect a gas engine to last around 200,000, but a typical diesel engine will last well over 350,000 miles. The reason for the big difference has to do with how the engines are built. Diesel engines are built super strong because they have to withstand more heat and pressure. Also, diesel fuel is basically light oil, which lubricates the engine and gives it a longer life. On the other hand, gasoline acts more like a detergent and washes the oil away, so gas engines suffer more wear and tear.

Lastly, forget about all of the bad things you have heard about diesel engines, much of what you may have heard may have been true at one point, but that is no longer the case. There have been many technological breakthroughs concerning diesel engines. Stricter emissions laws forced engineers to create better filters for diesel engines, so they no longer spew black smoke from the exhaust and are now actually more earth-friendly than gas engines. Perhaps there was a time when diesel engines were difficult to start in the cold, but this is also outdated. Modern diesel engines have glow plugs, and other remedies that eliminate hard starts in cold temperatures.

Modern Luxuries and Conveniences

As with most pickup trucks, Ram trucks offer an extensive number of trim levels, cab styles, and other neat features. You can even choose a cab with gold trim and striped wood on the dash and doors. There is no rule that states a work truck’s interior should be boring, bland, and uncomfortable. Gone are the days when truck cabs consisted of an AM radio with one speaker and a stiff bench seat. In some cases, you were lucky if you had a radio at all.

Modern Ram trucks come with acoustic glass as well as active noise cancellation in the audio system, so you can have a conversation on your phone with a client without annoying noises in the background. Old-time trucks offered a glove box to fulfill your storage needs; Ram trucks have plenty of interior cubby storage, including a center console that can accommodate a laptop.

Ram also packs their trucks with in-cabin tech features that rival luxury sedans. The Ram’s infotainment system is easy to use, intuitive, and features a large touch screen––one of the largest in its class. The system also features all of the tech options that make driving more safe and fun, like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, USB ports, and navigation, just to name a few.

Performance and More

The 6.7-liter turbo diesel is a beast with massive amounts of torque, a choice engine that will certainly get the job done. Let’s be real, if you are choosing a heavy duty Ram, it’s because you want to either haul heavy stuff or tow heavy stuff. You can expect any Ram truck to be in the top tier in towing and hauling capacities.

Also, don’t forget that the heavy duty Ram models are 4×4 pickup trucks, so they have off-road chops as well. All models have high ground clearance and with such a powerful engine, screaming up that trail road is a breeze. Even if you are getting this for work purposes, you can use it as a trailblazer on the weekends.

Regardless of which Ram you choose, the way it handles will be a pleasant surprise. Again, just because it is a work truck, that does not mean it can’t handle like a sports car. You will discover that steering is tight, braking is smooth, and you can take corners like you are driving a Porsche.

One last thing, in no way does the heavy duty Ram look like a work truck. Well, it looks tough and aggressive, but in a good way. And yes, the Ram does look stylish, and your family would be proud of being seen in it. So would you.
