Is the 2022 Jeep Compass Perfect for Cincinnati Drivers?

Do you agree that there’s nothing like Cincinnati? Do you agree there’s nothing quite like Jeep? Combine the two, and you have Zimmer CDJR, your Cincinnati Jeep dealer that is not quite like any other. Whether you’re looking to conquer the trails or simply tailgate at Paul Brown Stadium before seeing rising star Joe Burrow play for the Bengals – the 2022 Compass is one of Jeep’s most prominent new releases.
Intentionally kept minimalistic in a few regards, the 2022 Jeep Compass is a no-nonsense SUV whose price never seems egregious, no matter how high up the trim ladder you climb. Why we appreciate the Compass comes down to Jeep having crafted a vehicle with ample performance, off-roading capabilities, and a tech-filled interior, all at a price tag rivaling most of its competitors.
The 2022 Compass starts at an MSRP of $26,390, which makes it Jeep’s second most cost-friendly vehicle – sitting directly behind the Renegade.[a] The Renegade begins at a couple of thousand dollars less than the Compass, but you miss out on many of the best amenities that you’d get with the Compass, including but not limited to cargo space and technology. Perhaps the best part about selecting your Compass is knowing that every trim level includes the same powertrain, which is a massive win for anybody investing in the base model. There’s a lot to discuss here, so let’s begin.
What the Heck Is a Tigershark?
You read that right – a Tigershark engine. The 2.4L I-4 engine inside of the Compass is dubbed the ‘Tigershark’ and can be paired with either a 6 or 9-speed automatic transmission. In most cases, drivers may find themselves opting for the 9-speed automatic transmission when given the chance, but the 6-speed holds up well on the base models. This powertrain is capable of towing a maximum capacity of 2,000 lbs, mostly thanks in part to the Tigershark’s 177 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque. For getting around Cincinnati, this performance will help you get to and from your destinations with no issue, and you’ll have plenty of kick when getting your vehicle up-to-speed on Route 275.
Speaking of highway travel, let’s say you’re heading to Dayton, OH, via I-75 S, which likely isn’t the furthest road trip you’ve ever taken, but it’s undoubtedly not the shortest. Thankfully, the powertrain inside the 2022 Compass garners incredible fuel-economy ratings in both FWD and AWD. Compass models with FWD will earn you ratings of 22 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway, and AWD variants will get 22 MPG city and 30 MPG highway. Most importantly, note those highway fuel-economy ratings because this is where you’ll be saving the most money when traveling outside of the city. With the amount of fuel you’ll be saving, even the two-hour drive to Louisville, KY, via I-71 N won’t cost you as much as it would with some competing models.

The Compass’ Encompassing Safety Tech
What kind of technology will you find in the Compass? ‘Encompassing’ is the best way to describe the Compass because technology can be found in nearly every facet of the vehicle. Safety features, for example, are a highlight of the latest Compass, with Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking standard now. Thanks to these features, the Compass will stop ahead of a potential collision, and along with features such as Blond Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path Detection, there are many ways your Compass will keep you protected in a variety of scenarios from freeway travel to backing out of parking spaces.
Rear Cross Path Detection can work wonders. If you’ve ever been to the Kenwood Towne Centre around the holiday season, or perhaps trying to leave the parking lot of the Paul Brown Stadium, or our favorite, the Great American Ball Park (Go Reds!), then you know that backing up your vehicle can be brutal. And, referring back to Forward Collision Alert and Active Braking – leaving parking spaces will be a breeze.
Wait… There’s Indeed More
The 2022 Compass may sound enticing to you, but there are more reasons to be excited, most notably the infotainment center and entertainment features. Vehicles are a lot like wristwatches if you consider that digital displays are fading out everything analog. Let’s be honest, analog components, while always viable, aren’t something that we should always encourage as technology and software get more advanced and useful. Jeep is one of the manufacturers leading the charge, and the 2022 Compass is undoubtedly one of the byproducts of this success.
Some too many manufacturers preserve technology for the pricier models in their lineup, almost like a luxury. How does this make sense when other manufacturers, such as Jeep, take the necessary steps to ensure their cheaper vehicles are met with state-of-the-art technology? Often we hear people say that vehicles are computers now, and that statement isn’t too far off from the truth. With the 2022 Compass, you can have your proverbial cake and eat it too.
So let’s discuss the technology found inside the 2022 Compass. This isn’t your ordinary set of features – the 2022 Compass exceeds expectations in a multitude of ways. For starters, an 8.4-inch touchscreen comes standard, and not just any touchscreen; this is the UConnect 5 Infotainment Center. What makes it so special aside from its generously-sized screen? With the UConnect 5, you’ll have everything you need to make any trip entertaining, regardless of length.
This isn’t a fluke either, there’s nothing in this tech setup that screams obsoleteness, and a perfect example of this are the two USB ports on the center console. One of these USB ports is your average everyday USB-A port, but the second is the increasingly more common USB-C port, which is something that not enough manufacturers have adopted yet – leaving customers to utilize cheap third-party adapters.
This all wouldn’t mean a thing if the software wasn’t excellent. Hardware may be flashy, but without a competent set of features built within, then there’s not much excitement to be had. Fortunately, Uconnect 5 has you covered with a host of exciting features, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It’s worth noting that many manufacturers – like the ones we mentioned prior with the USB-C ports – haven’t fully adopted Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto yet. Everything you need to stay in touch with family and friends while simultaneously browsing through your favorite songs or using built-in maps to navigate in and around Cincinnati is here and ready to go.

Phew… Anything Else?
There’s much more to the 2022 Compass, but this is where our journey ends – at least on paper.
