Full-size trucks are some of the most powerful and important vehicles on the road; few other types of vehicles are as relied upon to help people get their jobs done as these pickups. That’s why we love being able to offer used trucks for sale near Burlington, so we can help people do their jobs and get some serious work done. Although we certainly love driving a new Ram truck, we know that used full-size trucks are the perfect option for many drivers, which is why we work so hard to maintain an impressive selection of these vehicles for our customers. With a number of excellent options available, however, it’s easy to get lost in what’s out there and feel overwhelmed. So, let’s take a look at six of our favorite used full-size trucks and some key model years to keep in mind as you shop for your next pickup.

#1 – The Ram 1500 – Legendary Power and Features

We’re a Ram dealership, so it should come as no surprise that we’re big fans of the Ram 1500 and everything it has to offer. Our own bias aside, that doesn’t change the fact that this is a remarkable full-size truck and a terrific option if you’re looking for a used model to drive around Burlington each day. With roots going back to the Dodge Ram that many of us grew up with, the modern Ram pickup is its own model separate from the Dodge brand; the Ram 1500 is the light-duty, full-size model worth looking for if you’re interested in big power and capability.

Although this Ram truck has been through many generations, we suggest going with the fourth generation at the earliest, which started with the 2009 model year. You might not want to go quite that far back; instead, look for a 2017 model where you can find fantastic trims like the off-road Rebel and the stylish Limited model. The fifth-generation Ram 1500 launched with the 2019 model year and these are fantastic trucks to look for used, especially with their powerful HEMI V8 engines. Note that the fourth-gen version remained in production through 2024, marketed as the Ram 1500 Classic, so keep that in mind when looking at used models.

#2 – The Ford F-150 – Impressive Performance and Capabilities

As you’re looking at used trucks, it’s a good idea to go into it with an open mind and explore different models, since that can make it easier to find what you’re looking for. With that in mind, one of our favorite options from other brands is the Ford F-150, which has been a leader in the industry for more than 40 years. This is Ford’s best-selling full-size truck and there are many of them out there when you’re looking at used vehicles, though you don’t have to go back to the 1980s to find a good one. We’d suggest a 13th-generation F-150, which can go back to the 2015 model year, at the earliest—a mid-cycle update for the 2018 model makes that a particularly good year to have in mind. The current 14th generation kicked off with the 2021 model year, so keep that in mind if you want a used truck with modern features like enhanced PowerBoost engines and the highest towing and payload ratings that Ford offers.

#3 – The Chevy Silverado 1500 – A Great Choice for Many Drivers

Rounding out the best-selling full-size trucks in the US (along with the Ram 1500 and F-150), the Chevy Silverado 1500 is a modern classic that has a lot to offer. Chevy introduced the Silverado series for the 1999 model year, though it builds on their legacy of trucks that go back many decades further. One of the things Chevy does very well is offer a lot of different trim levels and options on their trucks, so you can find a huge selection of Silverado 1500 models as you look at used trucks. The third generation of the Silverado 1500 launched with the 2014 model year, though we’d suggest going with a 2016 model at the earliest, which saw a mid-generation update and refresh. You might be happier with a 2019 or later model, which is the fourth generation of the Silverado 1500, if you’re looking for updated features.

#4 – The GMC Sierra 1500 – Upscale Features and Engineering

One thing we should note is that GM makes two different full-size trucks across their various brands: the GMC Sierra 1500 is the sibling of the Silverado 1500 and built on the same platform. They generally share the same engineering from one year to the next, but GMC models often have more refined interiors and features. If a sophisticated truck with impressive technology, comfortable seating, and bold performance is what you want to drive around Burlington, then a GMC Sierra 1500 could be the perfect choice. Year after year, the Sierra is the pickup we feel comes the closest to matching the kind of luxury and refinement that Ram trucks are known for. Model years for new generations are generally the same as the Chevy Silverado 1500.

#5 – The Toyota Tundra – Unexpected Power and Simplicity

If you’re looking for something a bit different from the kinds of trucks you’ll find from domestic brands; then you have a couple of good options from overseas. The Toyota Tundra is a surprisingly powerful and impressive full-size truck that features good looks, excellent features inside and out, and bold capabilities. One thing that’s nice about the Tundra is that Toyota tends to offer limited options for the engine and configurations; so, if you look at a third-generation Tundra from 2022 or later, you’ll always find a V6 engine, though some models will have a hybrid powertrain for enhanced performance. We should note that the Tundra’s second generation spanned from 2007 to 2021, which is a long time; major updates for 2014 make that a good year to start with as you look at used Tundra models.

#6 – The Nissan Titan – Bringing More Than You Expect to the Road

Wrapping things up, we have another option from overseas: the Nissan Titan, a large and surprisingly powerful full-size truck that’s a great choice for many drivers. Much like the Tundra, options are more limited with the Nissan Titan than trucks like the Ram 1500 and Chevy Silverado. This can be frustrating for folks looking for a new pickup since they have fewer options to get what they’re looking for; as you explore used models, however, this more-limited selection can make things a lot simpler. The Titan had a long first generation from 2004 to 2015, followed by a second generation that went from 2016 to 2024. These second-gen models are the ones to look for used, with three different cab sizes (look for a Crew Cab if you want a spacious interior) and impressive power. You’ll find a 390-hp V8 engine on every second-generation Titan, though an update for 2020 boosted performance a bit to 400 hp.

Powerful Full-Size Trucks for Burlington Drivers

As you can see, you have a number of great models to choose from as you’re looking for a used truck with impressive performance, big capabilities, and refined interiors available. We didn’t even get into more powerful options like the Ram 2500 and Ram 3500, which are worth looking for if you need a work truck that can handle massive payload and towing capacities. Once you start factoring in different trim levels, available engines, and other options, it’s easy to see why people can get lost trying to find the right used truck. That’s why we’re here to help; at Zimmer Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, we will gladly answer all of your questions and show you our impressive selection of used trucks to ensure you get what you’re looking for. All you have to do is decide what you need, and we’ll take care of everything else.
