The 2023 Wagoneer L not only brings exciting new features to the Wagoneer nameplate for 2023, but the Wagoneer L is itself a brand new addition for the model year. This larger and more capable SUV offers a 7-inch longer wheelbase than the standard Wagoneer, giving it an extra foot of overall length and offering more cargo volume. A brand new powertrain has also been added to the offerings in the form of a "Hurricane" twin-turbo engine, which features improved performance and fuel economy.
The stylish full-size SUV also adds an extra trim to the lineup in the form of the all-new Carbide. The Carbide trim joins the existing lineup of the Series I, Series II, and Series III trims. The Carbide features a blacked-out design, including a matching Gloss Black exterior with Gloss Black wheels and a Black Onyx grille. The Carbide comes fully equipped with a tri-pane sunroof, Gloss Black roof racks, and Gloss Black badging. Inside, the Carbide also features Global Black seats, instrumental panels, and trim.
The 2022 Wagoneer was fitted with a V8, but the 2023 Wagoneer L features an all-new power plant for the Wagoneer brand in the form of a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-6 engine. Yes, it's a 6-cylinder that comes equipped in the Wagoneer L, but it's more powerful than the old V8. It produces an impressive 420 hp and 468 lb-ft of torque, making it more than capable of giving you the kind of performance you expect from a full-size SUV, with plenty of gusto to get you to and from your destination with ease.
What's more is that the engineers have utilized low-inertia, high-flow turbines to boost the power of the Wagoneer L, reducing turbo lag and giving you access to the kind of torque you would expect from a naturally aspirated engine. Engine-mounted water-to-air charge cooling and high-pressure direct fuel injection also mean that the engine is responsive without being overworked, giving it more longevity than some other high-performance offerings. But it goes beyond that with the Hurricane's engineering feats for the Wagoneer L.
Not only does the Hurricane offer compelling performance for the Wagoneer L, but it also comes with improved fuel economy, gaining drivers up to two extra MPG or 15% additional fuel efficiency compared to the old V8 power plant. So not only is it powerful and luxurious, but it's also a more fuel-efficient entry in the Wagoneer lineup than the previous model year. But all of these fuel-saving, carbon-reducing, performance-enhancing features don't come at the expense of one of the Wagoneer's most desired features: towing capabilities.
The 2023 Wagoneer L is still capable of towing up to 10,000 lbs worth of cargo, making it the most capable model in its segment. From boats and trailers to small vehicles and camping gear, the Wagoneer L is outfitted with the reinforced chassis needed to handle heavy towing and trailering capacity, the likes of which you would often find from a light-duty pickup truck. This is all thanks to a new frame center rail and rear rail extension, along with utilizing high-strength steel for the fully boxed frame.
Performance, style, and technology all kind of go hand-in-hand for the 2023 Wagoneer L. It's a creative design synergy that Stellantis engineers utilized to bring the very capable and very luxurious full-size SUV to life. This is evident in everything from the carefully calibrated electric power steering to the electronically controlled air-ride suspension with semi-active damping. What this means is that you get a comfortable ride that adjusts the stiffness of the shocks to reduce bounce and jolts and stabilize the ride for a very smooth interior cabin experience no matter what the terrain, road conditions, or weather is like outside.
The comforting elements within the cabin are further accentuated by the 4x4 systems that come equipped on the Wagoneer L. The Selec-Terrain system comes with five different drive modes to provide the best functionality and stability, including Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, and Sand/Mud. You can also utilize Selec-Terrain for hill ascent and descent, thanks to the electronic range select control. The Quadra-Lift air suspension also provides Wagoneer L drivers with different driving style modes, including Normal, Off-Road 1, Off-Road 2, Park, and Aero Mode. Each mode is designed to give you the maximum efficiency levels for ride comfort and control, as well as fuel-saving opportunities.
The style doesn't end with the way the Wagoneer L handles; it also extends to how the vehicle looks on the outside and how you feel when seated on the inside. From the seven-slot paint-over chrome-laser-etched grille to the full array of exterior LED lighting and a hands-free power liftgate, the Wagoneer L oozes elegance with its own unique brand of style. The refined silhouette sits on 22-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with sophisticated badging on the front hood and rear liftgate, duly informing onlookers that they're in the presence of automotive prestige.
Inside, you can expect the opulence to continue, with appointed interior craftsmanship the likes of which you won't find in just any SUV on the market. Available Nappa leather upholstery for the seating helps set the stage for the kind of experience you should expect while traveling in the Wagoneer L. Standard 8-way power driver and front passenger seats with 4-way power lumbar support and a matching leather-wrapped steering wheel help define the seating arrangements in the 8-passenger, three-row SUV. With 44.2 cu.ft. of storage space behind the third row and third-row storage compartments that house over 100 cu.in. of cargo, it makes the 2023 Wagoneer L a more-than-capable full-size SUV.
The technology of the 2023 Wagoneer L is varied and immense. Powered by the Uconnect 5 infotainment suite, the Wagoneer L provides a total screen area of up to 50 inches. This includes an impressive array of displays for multiple rows, starting with a 10.1-inch HD multi-color touchscreen in the center stack, as well as a completely separate 10.25-inch multi-color driver information cluster, giving you all of the basic telematics you need to stay informed during your travels. But the infotainment goods don't end there; the Wagoneer L offers so much more.
A class-defining separate 10.25-inch front passenger display is available, giving the driver and passenger two completely separate displays of their own to utilize. The second display offers media access, app access, navigation tools, and more. Additionally, those riding in the rear seats can enjoy rear-seat entertainment via the dual 10.1-inch rear seat HD touchscreen displays, which come equipped with Amazon Fire TV. This gives the Wagoneer L a completely functional infotainment suite so that everyone can enjoy the journey from start to finish with their own desired form of media engagement.
Speaking of media engagement, the Wagoneer L features Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You can also take full advantage of the center console stack's wireless charging pad for smart devices, allowing you to recharge your phone on the go without requiring any cords whatsoever. Up to five user profiles are available for the Uconnect suite for customizing the ride experience, along with a fully customizable media app layout. SiriusXM 360L integration with over-the-air map updates for the Uconnect Navigation system and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot mean you're not lacking in any way when it comes to the connectivity functionality.
You can also charge your devices the old-fashioned way by utilizing up to 11 different USB ports sprinkled throughout the interior of the Wagoneer L's cabin, including two USB C ports. An additional heads-up display featuring configurable vehicle information and safety feedback helps add to the overall appeal of the Wagoneer, along with the Alexa "Home to Car" virtual assistant, so you can easily access features using voice-activated commands. The Wagoneer Connect app also allows you to remote start, lock, unlock, or locate the vehicle using any smart device.
Safety tech is also a standard part of the 2023 Wagoneer L's offerings. From blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path detection to front pedestrian detection with automatic emergency braking, you're in very safe hands with the Wagoneer L. Full speed forward collision alerts with active braking, active lane assist, and departure warnings, along with traffic sign recognition, collision detection, HD rear view monitoring, and an available 360 surround-view camera all add to the safety functionality of the Wagoneer L. With available parking assistance and adaptive cruise control with automatic stop-and-go functionality, you have the complete experience in the 2023 Wagoneer L, from performance, handling, and tech to infotainment and safety arrangements.
