Buyers looking for the next level in outsized luxury and 4x4 capability have a lot to be excited about because the Wagoneer is designed to blend aesthetic beauty, high-end luxury, and serious trail-ready performance.
Before we dive too deep into capabilities - and this is a very capable off-roading SUV - a closer look at the inside reveals a vehicle designed for discerning buyers. Three rows of plush leather seats accommodate up to eight, and available features like a Head-Up Display and panoramic sunroof significantly tick up the luxury quotient.
As for performance and capability, the 2022 Wagoneer delivers both seemingly effortlessly. Choose from the standard rear-wheel drive or optional 4x4 powertrain. All 2022 Wagoneers come standard with a 5.7-liter V8 engine boosted by a special eTorque 48-volt hybrid to help save on fuel. When equipped with the Heavy Duty Trailer-Tow Package, the Wagoneer can haul up to 10,000 pounds, plenty of heft for a boat, RV, or even a horse trailer. Add the ParkView BackUp Camera and integrated trailer brakes for effortless hitching and maneuvering.
The Wagoneer is available in either standard rear-wheel drive or optional 4x4 powertrains. Equip your Wagoneer with the latter, and opt for the available Advanced All-Terrain Group for optimal trail-ready performance. The package includes a Selec-Terrain Traction Management System and a Quadra-Lift Air Suspension System, along with an on-demand transfer case, a front skid plate to protect the axle, and chrome tow hooks.
The Selec-Terrain system includes settings for Rock, Sand/Mud, Snow, Auto, and Sport, so drivers can easily toggle in the responsiveness and torque availability necessary for multiple types of terrain. The air suspension gives drivers access to an additional 3.6 inches of ground clearance (added to the existing 8.0 inches of lift). Choose 4x4, and there’s an option for special 18-inch off-road tires and 20-inch wheels, a good choice for optimal trail riding performance.
Adding four-wheel drive will increase the Wagoner's base price by approximately $3,000. An adaptive damping suspension is standard on all 4x4 Wagoneers. It works by automatically adjusting suspension components to deliver either a softer or firmer ride, depending on road (or off-road) conditions and driving characteristics needed. 4x4 Wagoneers are also available with optional skid plates to protect underbody components, including the fuel tank, axles, and transfer case.
The new 2022 Wagoneer is available in two different trims: the Series II and the Series III. Buyers can choose from the standard rear-wheel drive configuration or upgrade to a powerful 4x4 configuration. Only a few exterior colors are available, by design, to keep the family of Wagoneers cohesive and exclusive. Colors like Velvet Red and Baltic Gray are refined as befits a luxury SUV.
The Series II comes standard with a plethora of luxury features, including Nappa leather seating in either black or beige and a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen that runs on Uconnect 5 and includes navigation. Add the optional Premium Group, and you’ll get upgraded 22-inch aluminum wheels and a tri-pane panoramic sunroof. The Rear-Seat Entertainment Group adds dual 10.1-inch rear entertainment screens for lucky back seat passengers.
The Wagoneer comes with seating for eight, but the 2nd-Row Seating Group Package swaps out the middle bench seat for power tilt/slide Captains Chairs and adds a console with cupholders. The second-row seats also included heaters. The Convenience Group is full of safety and driver-assist features, like Automatic High Beam Headlamps, Drowsy Driver Detection, and a Head-Up Display.
The Series III takes all the luxury of the Series II and adds a series of even more luxurious appointments to wow buyers and leave no doubt that the Wagoneer is the most well-appointed SUV in its category. Starting with the available 19-speaker McIntosh MX950 entertainment system, designed exclusively for the Wagoneer, the Series III is focused on next-level tech and in-cabin enjoyment and technology. The Head-Up Display becomes standard on the Series III, and there’s an available front passenger interactive display/touchscreen.
Choose the Premium Group, and the Wagoneer Series III receives the McIntosh entertainment system, 22-inch aluminum wheels, power running boards, a tri-pane sunroof, and special luxury front and rear floor mats. The Convenience Group adds Parallel and Perpendicular ParkAassist, a 360 Surround-View Camera, and other driver-assist and driver safety features.
Both the Series II and Series III offer a Heavy-Duty Trailer-Tow Package, which adds a special 3.92 rear axle ratio designed specifically for towing. You also get chrome tow-hooks, an electronic rear limited slip differential, trailer brake control, trailer hitch line-up assist, trailer hitch zoom, and a category first locking in-vehicle safe.
With the 2022 Wagoneer, you’re diving into an ownership experience that begins at the dealership on the day you arrive to buy it. It offers best-in-class passenger volume and seating for up to eight passengers across the entire trim range, two features large SUV buyers desire.
The available 10.25-inch passenger screen is the only one of its kind in the entire category. The touchscreen offers passengers four capabilities. First, they can enhance their co-piloting duties by displaying the navigation system and helping the driver anticipate upcoming turns. Next, the touchscreen allows the passenger to control entertainment features. Also, the system can display exterior vehicle camera views, and finally, it can play Amazon Fire TV.
Speaking of Amazon, the Uconnect system and available rear-seat dual-touchscreen entertainment system are compatible with Fire TV, so occupants can choose from hundreds of streaming entertainment options, also a first in the category. Second-row passengers will be extra comfortable when the Wagoneer is equipped with optional captain’s chairs.
