  • Trims

The base model of the 2022 Ram 1500 is the Tradesman, a bare-bones work truck that offers plenty of capability and comfort. From there, drivers have the choice of six other trims that offer a progressive suite of features and luxuries. These trims include the HFE, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Limited Longhorn, and Limited. However, what’s truly notable for the 2022 model is the addition of new packages and trim options that give the Ram 1500 an edge over the competition.

    BackCountry Edition

The Ram 1500 Big Horn trim can be further customized for adventure with the BackCountry Edition. The BackCountry Edition gives you the confidence you need to get a little mud on the tires and adds a unique aesthetic and a suite of off-road components to the workhorse. This starts with the exclusive black two-tone exterior and extends to the body-color grille surround, the body-color bed and tonneau cover, and the black badging, exhaust tips, mirrors, running boards, and headlamp bezels that make the BackCountry instantly recognizable.

The BackCountry Edition, which sits on 18-inch wheels, is available in the 4X4 Quad Cab or 4X4 Crew Cab configurations and delivers plenty of power whether you opt for the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with or without Ram’s exclusive eTorque mild-hybrid assist system that maximizes efficiency and performance.

When it comes to off-road components, the BackCountry comes with the 4X4 Off-Road Group that adds tow hooks, off-road calibrated shocks, a rear electronic locking axle, all-terrain tires, and hill-descent control. Skid plates protect the front suspension, power steering, fuel tank, and transfer case, which makes climbing over boulders and other obstacles less stressful. The Bed Utility Group makes it more convenient to haul your gear with a bed extender, deployable bed step, bed lighting, spray-in bed liner, and adjustable upper tie-downs that allow you to confidently haul all types of gear.

    Laramie G/T and Rebel G/T

While the BackCountry focuses on off-road capability, the Laramie G/T and Rebel G/T focus on street performance. Instantly recognizable with their sport performance hood and G/T decals, the G/T models include a factory-installed cat-back exhaust, cold-air intake, paddle shifters, a sport pedal kit, and a console-mounted performance shifter. You’ll also find the G/T models come with access to Ram’s Performance Pages app, which gives you valuable real-time data like engine performance, g-force meters, lap timers, and more.

    10th Anniversary Edition

The 10th Anniversary Edition celebrates the Ram 1500’s decade-long success and is available on the Limited trim. The package sets the standard for luxury in the truck segment and offers top-quality materials, from real wood and metal accents to leather seating and beyond. From the outside, the truck is distinguishable with its exclusive Blue Shade exterior color. Other unique features include Ram’s multifunction tailgate, a suede headliner, 10th Anniversary badging, and a premium 19-speaker sound system.

  • Performance and Capability

The 2022 Ram 1500 continues to offer exceptional performance and capability across its lineup with five engine options, all of which are paired with Ram’s 8-speed automatic transmission. The standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine is a veteran in the Ram 1500’s lineup and is offered with the class-exclusive eTorque mild hybrid technology. This unique system optimizes performance and efficiency to deliver 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque with a maximum towing capability of 7,730 pounds.

    Three V8 Options

When it comes to V8 engines, the Ram 1500 has three options, starting with the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 that’s available with or without the eTorque system. The standard 5.7-liter HEMI is a legend in the Ram lineup and lives up to its reputation for delivering sheer power to the tune of 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. It also boosts the Ram 1500’s towing capability to 11,610 pounds. When you add the class-exclusive eTorque system to the powertrain, the Ram 1500 is at its strongest with a maximum towing capability of 12,750 pounds.

For drivers focused less on towing and more on raw performance and speed, the Ram 1500 TRX is at the ready with its supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8. As the most powerful engine ever installed in a half-ton truck straight from the factory, the V8 delivers the need for speed with 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. This sheer power also pushes its launch from 0 to 60 mph to only 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 118 mph.

    Best in Class Diesel

Diesel fans aren’t excluded from the 2022 Ram 1500’s engine lineup, thanks to the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6. The EcoDiesel sets a new standard of capability by delivering a best-in-class torque rating of 480 lb-ft along with a best-in-class towing capacity of 12,560 pounds, which is only slightly less than the gas-powered 5.7-liter HEMI V8. The EcoDiesel also delivers 260 horsepower, which is enough power for quick acceleration and smooth handling when the Ram 1500 is towing a heavy load.

  • Technology

The interior of a 2022 Ram 1500 shows the infotainment screen.

There’s no shortage of technology on the 2022 Ram 1500 as Ram lives up to its reputation for offering state-of-the-art features that are designed to keep you connected, safe, and confident when you’re on the road. The heart of this technology starts with the available 8.4-inch or 12.0-inch touchscreen display that’s home to the brand-new Uconnect 5 infotainment system with navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and your favorite apps via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto integration. While these features are impressive, the 2022 Ram’s smart towing technology and safety features are truly remarkable.

    Towing Tech

Trucks like the 2022 Ram 1500 are designed to work hard and tow heavy loads. This is why Ram outfits the truck with an intuitive suite of smart towing technology that gives you the tools you need to confidently tow everything from trailers and campers to boats and beyond. These tools also seamlessly work with the truck’s suite of safety and driver-assist tech that serve as an extra set of eyes around the truck to minimize the potential for collision.

This technology starts with the basics like the new Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring system that helps you monitor the air pressure in the trailer’s tires. The Trailer Light Check simplifies checking the trailer’s lights while the 360-degree Surround View Camera and Trailer-Tow Power-Fold Mirrors give you a clear view around the truck and the trailer using five cameras. This also makes it easy to line the truck up with the trailer for hooking and unhooking. The Trailer Reverse Steering Control tool takes the guesswork out of backing the trailer into a designated area by using the Trailer Steering knob that lets you control the direction of the trailer as the system takes over the truck’s steering.

    Driver Safety Features

Trailer Sway Control and Electronic Roll Mitigation give the truck and trailer more stability, while Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path Detection makes it easier to change lanes - especially when you’re towing a heavy load. The system scans the blind zones around the truck and the trailer, alerting you to potential obstacles so that you can change lanes with ease. This is especially helpful on long drives when fatigue sets in and you change lanes without thoroughly checking your surroundings.

The 2022 Ram 1500 also comes with a host of other advanced safety features like Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking that alerts you to potential collisions and gives you time to apply the brakes to minimize the potential or severity of impact. If you fail to respond, the system can bring the truck to an emergency stop. Ram also makes driving on the highway easier with advanced tools like Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go that actively monitors the flow of traffic and adjusts the truck’s speed as needed to maintain a safe distance. Other available tools include Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist and LaneSense Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist.
