The Jeep Legacy

Jeep’s story begins, of course, with World War II, during which time it was developed by a number of car manufacturers to provide maneuverability and durability for soldiers. Although it took a lot of effort to fully develop, the resulting vehicle was an absolute marvel and became a legendary workhorse in the European theater of the war. From laying cable to transporting wounded soldiers as an ambulance, and pretty much everything in between, the Jeep was so popular that after the end of the war, a lot of soldiers and civilians that heard about it wanted one.

The first commercial Jeep models became available in 1945 for the civilian populace and were remarkably similar to the military vehicles that had come before them. Originally manufactured by Willys-Overland, there have been many owners of the Jeep brand over the years, including Kaiser Jeep in the 1960s, Chrysler in the 1980s and 1990s, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles today. Throughout all of this, however, the Jeep has remained a stalwart example of premier off-road design and startling performance that allows a driver to go just about anywhere they can imagine.

Jeep might not be the first name that comes to mind when you think about high-performance vehicles, but it definitely should be.

2020 Two-Door Jeep Wrangler

The two-door Jeep Wrangler is a lighter and more agile vehicle than the four-door version. While the two versions do share quite a number of trims and specifications, they do have their differences, which makes it important to look at the two as separate entities. So, let’s take a look at the two-door Jeep Wrangler.

Starting with performance, among the many trims are three engine options. The standard engine in the 2020 Wrangler is a 3.6L V6 with 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, while the upgraded engine is 2.0L turbo with 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The third engine option is only available on certain trims and is a 3.0L diesel with 260 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque.

The base trims of the 2020 Wrangler are the Sport and Sport S. These are relatively similar in their starting configurations, but the Sport S is a bit better equipped and offers a much more extensive array of options including luxury features such as dual-zone climate control, a 7” infotainment screen, and a heated steering wheel. The Sport S also has the choice between all three engines instead of just the two gasoline engines that are available on the Sport.

If you want a bit more style than the base trims can offer, then look for the Freedom or Black and Tan special editions. The Wrangler Freedom is Jeep’s tribute to the armed forces and is easy to recognize by its star in circle insignia, which was originally used by American troops in Europe during World War II. The Black and Tan similarly stands out with its tan top, matte badging, and Heritage tan seats. Both of these vehicles are similar to a well-equipped Wrangler Sport S, although they do not offer the diesel engine option.

The Willys Sport and Willys editions are more performance-oriented and come standard with valuable features such as improved suspension, rock protection, and a limited-slip rear differential in addition to their Willys badging. Between the two, the Willys Sport comes with a more basic interior and can only be had with the V6 engine, while the Willys is filled with premium features and is available with all three engines.

But the ultimate off-road Wrangler trims is the Rubicon, which comes standard with even more high-performance features suited to conquer the toughest trails. These include locking front and rear differentials, a four-wheel drive transfer case with 4:1 low gear ratio, and an electronic sway bar disconnect. However, the Rubicon is not available with the diesel engine. The more popular options for the Rubicon, such as the 2.0L engine, steel bumpers, and LED lighting, combined with unique styling elements, create the Rubicon Recon special edition.

2020 Four-Door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

The four-door Wrangler models include all of the same trims and special editions offered for the two-door Wranglers. The main differences apart from the additional doors are the expansion of the cargo area from 32 cubic feet to 72 cubic feet and the increase in turning radius from 17 feet to 20 feet. This makes the four-door Wrangler a more practical vehicle even if it is less suited to negotiating narrow trails. Because of its greater practicality, the four-door Wrangler comes with five additional premium trims and special editions not offered for the more adventurous two-door Wrangler.

The first of these four-door-only special editions is the Sport Altitude. This takes the basic Sport S trim and updates it with a body-color grille, gloss tires, and an all-black interior. But if you want something a little more practical, then the Sahara trim is the one Wrangler that is not meant for adventurous off-roading. While it can still handle back roads with ease, it is primarily designed for the street.

One example of this is that it is the only Wrangler trim that is offered with a full-time four-wheel drive system optimized to keep you safe at high speeds on the pavement. The Wrangler Sahara is also well equipped with a standard 7” infotainment screen and dual-zone automatic climate control, among other features, making it a comfortable ride for daily commutes or long road trips. The base Sahara trim can be taken a step further with the Sahara Altitude special edition, which includes a body-color roof and black leather seats in addition to the features of the Sport Altitude special edition.

The final four-door Wrangler special editions are the North Edition and High Altitude. Both are luxury editions that come standard with premium features such as large 8.4” infotainment displays and upgraded audio systems. The High Altitude edition takes the features of the Sport Altitude and Sahara Altitude a step further. Sporting 20” gloss black wheels and a premium leather interior on top of its matching body-color trim, the High Altitude is the ultimate four-door, Wrangler. However, the North Edition takes a slightly different route and is tailored to cold climates with standard features such as all-weather floor mats, heated seats, and a heated steering wheel.

2020 Jeep Gladiator Pickup

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is the newest and most exciting Jeep model. The first Jeep pickup truck since the 1992 phase-out of the Jeep Comanche, the Gladiator is effectively a stretched Jeep Wrangler with a four-door cab and a five-foot box. This gives you the superb off-road performance expected of a Wrangler with the versatility of a truck. While there are six trims of the 2020 Jeep Gladiator, all of them come with the same 3.6L V6 engine producing 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. And unlike most trucks today, the Gladiator has the option of a six-speed manual transmission as well as a more conventional eight-speed unit.

The base trims of the 2020 Gladiator are the Sport, Sport Plus, and Overland. The Sport is the most basic of the three with its 5” infotainment screen and manual air conditioning, while the Overland is the best equipped with a standard 7” infotainment, leather steering wheel, and automatic headlights. This can be further improved with options ranging from an 8.4” infotainment screen to leather seats. The Sport Plus trim sits somewhere between the Sport and Outlander, although fully loaded it can be more comfortable than a standard Outlander.

The Rubicon and Mojave trims are the specialized performance trims of the 2020 Gladiator. The Rubicon is designed for technical off-roading and comes with a plethora of advanced features that make it a superb rock climber, including locking front and rear differentials, a Rock-Trac transfer case with a 4:1 low gear ratio, and an electronic disconnecting sway bar. The brand new Mojave trim, on the other hand, is a purpose-built desert racer and is the first truck to wear Jeep’s new “Desert Rated” badge. While it cannot match the Rubicon for low-speed work, the Mojave is top dog when it comes to high-speed off-roading, and its beefed-up Fox suspension and higher lift can take the roughest courses in stride.

Finally, the 2020 Gladiator has two limited-edition trims, the High Altitude, and North Edition. The North Edition trim, as the name implies, is designed for drivers in northern climates. With all-weather floor mats and tow hooks, as well as heated seats and a heated steering wheel, this trim is ready to conquer the cold. Finally, the High Altitude is the Gladiator’s premium trim, and with LED lighting, body-color trim, gloss black 20” wheels, and quilted Nappa leather seats, this truck looks and feels like no other.

2020 Jeep Compass

The 2020 Jeep Compass is a compact SUV designed for both the open road and for going on an adventure while leaving the road behind. It is a gorgeous vehicle with a sleek design that immediately demands your attention and is emblematic of what it means to be a Jeep, while still retaining its own style. Numerous interior options give you plenty of space for you and your passengers to remain incredibly comfortable, while letting you get everything you need.

In terms of off-road performance, the Compass is a worthy addition to the Jeep lineup, with available 4×4 that lets you conquer just about any trail you want. There is also a wide range of impressive safety features on offer for the Compass, which makes it the perfect combination of style, sophistication, performance, and security.

Trims on the 2020 Jeep Compass include:

• Sport: The Sport is the standard trim for the 2020 Compass and includes the standard 2.4L Tigershark I-4 engine with a 6-speed manual transmission, which is perfect if you like to have total control over your driving experience. It features a black grille surround with chrome rings, quad-halogen headlamps, standard cruise control, and more. Inside, the Compass Sport has dual-zone automatic temperature control, a 3-inch black-and-white driver information display, and 6-way manual adjustable driver and front-passenger seats. You also get a 7-inch infotainment display, standard 6-speaker sound system, and 7 airbags for passenger safety.
• Latitude: The Latitude trim takes things a step further, with either a 6-speed automatic or manual transmission available. 2020 Jeep Cherokee

The 2020 Jeep Cherokee is a small SUV that gives you a bit more interior room compared to the Compass, making it a great choice for a modest group of friends or family. You cannot miss the bold styling of the Cherokee and it certainly takes its place in the modern Jeep lineup with a look and feel that is all its own. Even though a lot of people might first think of the Wrangler when looking to go off-road, the Cherokee is a fine choice for hitting the trail in comfort.

Inside the Jeep Cherokee, you will find all of the luxury and sophistication you would expect from a modern SUV. While some of this depends on what trim level you choose, available and standard features across the board are certainly impressive. And with excellent safety options available, you can feel secure both on and off the road in the Cherokee.

Trims on the 2020 Jeep Cherokee include:

• Latitude: The Latitude is the starting trim for the Cherokee and has standard features that include a 2.4L Tigershark I-4 engine and a 9-speed automatic transmission. You get a chrome grille surround with active grille shutters, LED headlamps and taillamps, and daytime running lamps all standard. It also comes with cloth seating, a 3-inch high-resolution driver cluster, air conditioning, and a power 8-way driver’s seat.
